I've been trying to figure out a way to streamline our communication methods and the best way seems to be using a blog-type site. So, this is our new site!   The old site now has directions guiding people to this new site. The List of Archon Users is still the same link and lists the same institutions as the old site. The best feature of the new site is that you can subscribe to the news updates via email. Because of this, I will no longer be sending updates by email.  Please    subscribe to updates    to ensure that the latest updates will arrive in your email box.

You're invited to Archon Day 2018!   The Archon Users Collaborative will be meeting at Denison University on June 29, 2018. Registration is now open: Register now! We will be discussing a number of topics in order to continue to anticipate users' needs and drive some forward movement on the future of Archon. All Archon users and interested parties are welcome to attend. Archon Day will be formatted as an unconference and the topics for discussion will be broadly formulated by the participants who are attending. More details to come about accommodations, programming, etc. If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see or topics you'd like to cover, send them my way. Communication There are a few more names on our mailing list. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better way for us to communicate/spread news rather than 50 emails in the To: field? Unfortunately the site we built in Google Sites doesn't allow for a blog with RSS/Subscription type features. I would love any suggestions or thoughts you have on this, on- or off- list. I was wondering if Constant Contact or something would be helpful, but personally I know my Google Mail tends to filter those types of things into a "Forums" or "Updates" type mail box and it skips my inbox... I was also thinking Google Groups, but not all work institutions and/or Google Apps institutions have access to that and it can restrict people on ...

Please note- this email is now addressed to the entire group of Archon users from the list on the website, the user survey, were part of the update project, or attended Archon Day 2017.  The previous December email was not complete in its distribution.  I know a giant list of email addresses isn't the most convenient or secure, so I'll be looking into an easier way to email everybody, possibly using a mailing listserv type thing. We had a number of folks interested in attending another Archon Day.  Since we are already in 2018, I'll throw Denison University in the ring as a possible hosting location. Anne Salsich has also suggested Oberlin College as a possibility.  Are there any other folks willing to host? If so, please let me know within the next two weeks.  We are at a compressed timeline, so we will need to make plans as soon as possible. Updates  from  Archon  Day Archon  Day 2017 was held in May 2017 at Denison University. We discussed the  Archon   Update  Project which resulted in the new code ( Archon  3.21-rev3) and talked about where we wanted to go in the future. We established four areas where we could do some more work: 1. Migration  - Matt Gorzalski contacted folks about ASpace versioning and the migration tool. The response from ArchivesSpace Program Manager, Christine Di Bella:  "Our Tech Lead, Laney McGlohon, is currently working on some plans for hopefully  updating  both the  Archon  and Archivists’ Toolkit migration tools to the current version of ArchivesSpace, or at least closer than is currently supported (they currently go up to 1.4.2) ... The migration tools do have a finite lifespan, though. Once most people who are going to make the move to ArchivesSpace have done so, we would expect not to continue  updating  ...
